Smoke Screen. Just the title and knowing Terri Blackstock is the author, is enough for me to be excited. Her books are always full of mystery, suspense, romance, and page-turning surprises. You just never know where the story will go when you start a Terri Blackstock book.
This book is full of complicated lives. There’s Brenna Strickland Herzog, her two children, and her ex-husband and his new trophy wife. Then there’s Nate Beckett, injured smoker jumper finally back home to recuperate, his brother, mom and dad. Oh, wait. Did I forget to mention a difficult family (or three), a mean father-in-law, an ex-con, an arsonist, and a murderer? This book has all this and more.
Yes, this book has many characters with an array of difficult circumstances to overcome. The question is, will they be able to turn to God for strength or remain stuck in their own problems, facing trials, anger, disappointments, alcoholism, medical trauma, and murder.
Brenna and Nate seem to be destined for failure. No one is on their side. They’ve been through so much in the past that separated them and now their lives are suddenly thrown back together. You’ll have to wait and read this suspenseful and surprising novel to find out. Sometimes, you think you know what’s going on…and then you realize you know nothing! It’s a smoke screen meant to confuse and mislead us. This is another great novel by one of my “must-read” authors.
