In Memory of Christian Author, Diann Hunt

We lost a wonderful Christian author, Diann Hunt, back on November 29, 2013 after a battle with cancer.  Her book, For Better or For Worse, is currently offered for $2.99 as an e-book AND the book was made into a movie that will be aired on the Hallmark channel this Saturday, July 19th.  I can’t wait to see this movie.  I’m setting my DVR now!

booklovers1.wordpress.com is the blog that nominated us for our Liebester award and even though I mentioned them in my post “accepting the award” and linked to their site, I just wanted to make sure you all knew about them.

They do book reviews, devotionals, movie reviews, Christian music clips and much more!  I follow her blog and love reading the book reviews (of course) and I’ve re-blogged a few of her posts before.

So, be sure to visit her at booklovers1.wordpress.com and read about the blog.

Movie Review Monday – The Lost Medallion

This sounds like a wonderful family movie. Read Penny’s review and look at her blog for more movie and book reviews.

Penny Zeller, Christian Author

IMG (4)My suggestion for this week’s Movie Review Monday is The Lost Medallion: The Adventures of Billy Stone.
It’s not often that today’s movie makers produce a movie targeted toward children that includes humor, adventure, drama, a good story line and is wholesome with a good message to boot. The Lost Medallioneasily fits that bill.
Alex Kendrick, from Courageous, Fireproof and Facing the Giants, plays Daniel, a man who visits a foster care home to make a donation when he’s roped into the telling the children at the home a story. Actually on his way to a baseball game, Daniel doesn’t have a story in mind and isn’t convinced he should set aside time to tell a story until he sees the three new residents at the home. Three residents who are no doubt struggling with the circumstances in their young lives.
Determined to make a difference, no matter…

A Season of Mysteries by Rusty Whitener (Sequel to A Season of Miracles) FREE June 6 and 7!!!

Ok, if you read A Season of Miracles by Rusty Whitener, then you know what a fantastic book that was.  Our Book Club read that in September 2012 and what a wonderful book!  It was made into a movie but I can’t find out if the movie is out yet, I’ll keep working on that.

But now for the GREAT NEWS!!

TODAY and TOMORROW, June 6 & 7, 2013, the  sequel, A Season of Mysteries, kindle book will be FREE!!!!!!  I’ve already downloaded mine and I can’t wait to read this book.  Here is a link to Reviews from the Heart and you can read her review of the book.

If you have read the first book, then you’ll want to get Book 2A Season of Mysteries,  while it free.  And if you haven’t read the first book, go ahead and get the sequel, A Season of Mysteries, now and buy book 1.  It will be well worth it.

Jimmy by Robert Whitlow is Now a Movie!

For those of us who are Robert Whitlow fans (and for future Robert Whitlow fans), Carmen has just found out that his book, Jimmy, has been made into a movie.  The trailer looks great.  If you haven’t read the book, I would encourage you to read it first…books are always better than movies, much more detail.

I’m hoping to see this movie soon and if it’s as good as I think it will be, then I’ll buy it for our Media Center.  If anyone sees this movie, please come back here and let me know how you liked it, ok?

Here’s a link to Family Fiction website with the description of the movie and the movie trailer.

Monumental DVD by Kirk Cameron – History Like You’ve Never Heard Before!

This was awesome!  The BEST history lesson I’ve ever heard. I was not taught this in school and I’m “an old person”, so I know that the younger generation are not being taught the truth about the Pilgrims and the reason they came to America and all they suffered through for our freedom today.

Kirk Cameron was excellent in this production and it was beautifully produced with fantastic quality.  You will not get bored watching this documentary because Kirk is a great storyteller and the experts he interviews tell their part of the history lesson with excitement.

Everyone should watch this film.  I wish it could be shown in public schools, because facts are facts, you can’t change history to suit your beliefs.  And hearing the truth about the birth of our nation is awe inspiring.

Kirk did an extensive tour at the National Monument to the Forefathers at Plymouth, Massachusetts.  I’d never heard of this place and the history of this monument is amazing.

We now have this DVD in our Media Center, so I hope that each and every member of our church will come and check this out and watch it alone, with their kids, grandkids, friends…whoever (or should it be whomever 🙂 ) …just watch it.

I searched for a trailer to include in this post about the movie and I came across a rap song by, IV His Son, and I thought I’d spice up your Friday by letting you watch it.  Just sit back pat your feet, sway to the rhythm, or get up and do some moves yourself.  It’s a well-done video.

The Bible Miniseries Review

I thought about just making a comment to my previous post on this epic miniseries, but decided to do it as a post so everyone would get it.  One comment made to the original post, was to be careful about this movie and to go back to the Bible to read the real account.  I just finished watching the first part from last night and I totally agree.  It is a massive undertaking, to be sure, and the visuals are great.  Although, I’m having a hard time with the accents…I never expected Noah to have an Irish accent (at least that’s what it sounded like to me).  Anyway,  I realize that there is no way for them to do a 10-part series about the entire Bible and get it all in, but I had hoped that what they did get in would be accurate.  But just like any movie made from a book, this one is no different, and they have changed the stories to suit the movie.  Maybe not much, but enough that if you know your Bible then you will recognize the difference.

One good thing I hope comes from this movie is that everyone pulls out their Bibles and starts reading the REAL STORY, in God’s own inspired words.  God’s Word is so much better than this movie could ever be.  So enjoy the movie, but realize that it is a very condensed version and some things have been changed.  So after you watch the episodes, get your Bible out and read the actual account and all the stories in-between.  You will be blessed!
