What Are You Reading Today?

wfbcmediacenter.wordpress.com

wfbcmediacenter.wordpress.com

I thought it would be fun to see what all of my followers and anyone else who visits our blog is currently reading?  We might get some great ideas from each other!

Right now I’m actively reading, Blowing on Dandelions by Miralee Ferrell.  I’ll be publishing a review in the next few days I hope…things keep getting in my way of reading lately!  Not good!

I’m also reading, Sparkly Green Earrings by Melanie Shankle.  I was up in the middle of the night on Monday with my back hurting, so I pulled this book up on my kindle!  If it had been during the day I would have been laughing out loud (didn’t want to wake my hubby) and I had to have lots of tissues to wipe my eyes, because I was silently laughing so much I was crying…can’t wait to get back to this book! 🙂

And I’ve been slowing reading a great devotional book, Walking with Bilbo by Sarah Arthur.  If you are a Hobbit and Lord of the Rings fan like me, you’ll love this book of devotions.  I think I’m taking my time, because I don’t want to finish it.  I’m sure this will be one I’ll refer to again and again.

So….what are you reading?  Let me know!

Great E-Book Deals Today

Here are some great book deals listed on the The Vessel Project for your e-reader today. One book is especially dear to me, The House on Malcolm Street by Leisha Kelly, $3.99 on Kindle.  I have read all of her books and they are all excellent. As far as I know this was her latest book and I read it and totally loved it and when it ended I was hoping she would write a sequel to it one day.  But then I heard that both her and her son were killed in a car crash and I felt like the Christian fiction world had just lost one of there very special authors.  I don’t know anything else about the family she left behind but just seeing her book reminds me to pray for them.  Anyway, this book was excellent!  There are some other good books on the list, so I’ll let y’all look through the website and see if anything interests you.

The House That Love Built by Beth Wiseman – A Sweet Romance (5 Stars)

 Beth Wiseman (Thomas Nelson)

 Scan 131780000

This was a very endearing romance.  But all romances don’t start off to a good start, and neither does this one.  Brooke Holloway, mother of two, has yet to get over the tragic death of her beloved husband even though it’s been two years.  Then Owen Sanders moves to town and buys the old Hadley mansion in the town his ex-wife said she would love to live.  So he buys it himself to have what she gave away when she left him.  Fortunately for him, Brooke owns the local hardware store, and the romance begins.

There are many twists and turns in this romance and it will keep you reading long into the night because you just don’t want to put it down.  It’s bitter-sweet, precious, romantic, heart-breaking, and wonderful to see these two lives as they let go of their old fears and doubts and trust God for forgiveness and a future

I won this book through a sweepstakes on Goodreads and was not asked to do a review but I wanted to because I enjoyed the books so much!  And now the patrons in our Media Center will be able to check it out and enjoy it also.

Freebies on Kindle:   Just click on the title and you’ll be directed to amazon to read about the book and purchase, just make sure they are still free.

Stealing Jenny by Ellen Gable (my aunt read this book and enjoyed it)

This is a really good day for e-books!  Click on the e-reader and you’ll be directed to the website where you can read the book description and the reviews.  Click on the author’s name and you’ll be directed to their website where you can read more about them and their books.  Always double check the price and make sure it’s what you expect.  Prices change quickly.  And I’m not sure about a couple of these authors so use your good sense when reading their books and if it’s not Biblical, then delete, and let me know so I’ll watch out for them in the future.

  • FREE on Kindle and Nook:  Homespun Bride (The McKaslin Clan #1) by Jillian Hart
  • FREE on Kindle:  Doesn’t She Look Natural (The Fairlawn Series #1) by Angela Hunt.  This is a fantastic series.  You’ll laugh and maybe even cry and you’ll enjoy every minute.  We have the entire series in our Media Center.
  • FREE on Kindle and Nook:  Elisha’s Bones (A Jack Hawthorne Adventure #1) by Don Hoesel.  I read this a couple of years ago and while it’s controversial and I don’t believe it could happen, it is fiction and it was an exciting mystery.

  • 99¢ on Kindle:  Confessions of a Prayer Slacker by Diane Moody
  • 99¢ on Kindle:  The Devil’s Game (A Fast-Paced Christian Fiction Suspense Thriller (A Reverend Buchman Thriller) by Daniel Patterson.  I haven’t read anything by this author and there were no reader reviews, but I’m a lover of suspense thrillers, so I may give this one a try.  But just always balance what you read with God’s Word. If anyone knows something about this author or book that I need to know about, please let me know.  Take advantage of the option on Amazon to read the first couple of chapters, I just did and I’m not too sure about it.  Just use your best judgement.
  • $1.99 on Kindle and Nook:  Rock Harbor Search and Rescue #1 by Colleen Coble and Robin Caroll.  Great book for teens and even adults who’ve read and loved the Rock Harbor series by Colleen Coble…see my review under the Book Reviews section.  Starting July 1, we will be featuring Colleen Coble with a personal interview and a book giveaway (Rosemary’s Cottage), so come back and check out this interview and enter the sweepstakes to win an autographed copy of her new book.

  • FREE on Kindle and Nook:  Blowing on Dandelions (Love Blossoms in Oregon) by Miralee Ferrell.  This is a new author to me but the reviews are really good and good reviews from other great Christian authors. I got this endorsement from Miralee’s website  “In Blowing on Dandelions, Miralee Ferrell has an excellent way of keeping the words flowing, keeping the reader following, and investing in the characters. I particularly love the redemption she shows, where not all offensive people are evil, but merely hurting. Of course, the love story makes for a perfectly satisfying ending. Very well done!”Hannah Alexanderaward-winning author of the Hideaway Series (Hannah Alexander will be our featured author in October! So mark your calendar)

Ahoy, Come Aboard for a Great Adventure with Sam Cooper

4230547_jumboCaptain Jack’s Treasure (A Sam Cooper Adventure #1) by Max Elliot Anderson

Three boys, best friends, Summertime, the ocean, treasure hunting, and Captain Jack!  Ahoy, matey’s!  You are in for a treat reading this second adventure with Sam Cooper and his friends Tony and Tyler.

They live in Harper’s Inlet, FL and Tony’s dad own’s a marina.  They are out of school for the summer and Sam’s dad surprises him with a metal detector.  Now Sam is obsessed with finding buried treasure.  So he gets his friends involved and they set looking for adventure.  After a long time digging, all they came up with was an empty metal drum.  But then at the marina they meet up with an old “crusty” sailor, named Captain Jack.  He’s just bought and old dilapidated boat and ask the boys if they want to work for him this summer in fixing the boat up.  Of course they jump on that offer and off they go on a grand adventure on finding out Captain Jack’s secret and Sam’s getting more and more obsessed with finding treasure. Captain Jack always offers the boys a wonderful “tale” after each work day and the boys just eat it up, just like the pizza Captain Jack gives them

Sam’s dad explains to him that earthly treasure are only temporary and true treasure is things that last.  Sam finds out the hard way what his dad was trying to teach him.

The morals in this story are wonderful and the excitement is good enough for any young boy, maybe 4th grade through middle school even.  Even I, an old grandma, enjoyed the story.

You don’t have to read the stories in sequence but I would recommend it.  This story refers to the boys harrowing adventure in the first book that I’m going to have to read now!  And I’m sure Book 3 will be just as good.  This book will be donated to the Media Center and I’ll be buying the other two soon.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from bookfun.org in return for my honest opinion and did not receive any compensation for a favorable review. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.”

Here’s a trailer about the book:

Rock Harbor Search and Rescue – Free Book Download – Ends May 31, 2013

cover28782-small

I just received an email from Thomas Nelson & Zondervan about Colleen Coble & Robin Caroll‘s new series for middle-school kids.  I’ve read the book and it’s great!  I read the Rock Harbor series that Colleen Coble wrote for adults and I really enjoyed reading this first book in this series because it’s all about the kids of the main characters in the adult series.  I loved it, I’m sure you and/or your middle school age kids will love it to. You can read my review by clicking HERE.

Here is the link for the free book download.  I hope this works, since it was an email to me and I’m in unchartered territory now, but I’m going to give this a try. Let me know if it works for you!
