The first books I read by Colleen Coble was her Aloha Reef Series and I was hooked! Mystery, romance & Hawaii…how can you go wrong with that combo! Then I went to the Rock Harbor Series and loved it. The mystery and romance and the rescue dogs fasinated me! And now she has teamed up with Robin Caroll to write a series for young adults about the teenagers in the Rock Harbor Search & Rescue series. I’ve read the first book and I throughly enjoyed it and am looking forward to the sequel that’s coming out in October. Even though it’s geared toward a younger audience, it was neat to go back to Rock Harbor and get involved with the kids from the adult series and see what mysteries they get involved with. Colleen has written some stand-alone novels, two that stand out in my mind are Anathema and Abomination, great suspense. She’s also written a western genre series, The Lonestar Series, and co-written with three other authors, The Smitten Series. A contemporary, romantic, sometimes funny book. I fell in love with this make believe town!
Colleen’s latest book is, Rosemary’s Cottage (The Hope Beach Series #2). The first book in this series is, Tidewater Inn, and I thought it would be neat to have one of our Media Center patron’s (my sweet daughter-in-law) to write a little review about this first book.
“Tidewater Inn by Colleen Coble will keep you on the edge of your seat as the story unfolds. Coble keeps you intrigued as she leads you into a story of romance and suspense. The main character of the story gives every reader something they can relate to as she deals with family issues, feelings of betrayal, the loss of a friend, a new found love, and some very difficult decisions that must be made. Inspiring us to live a life of faith and forgiveness, Tidewater Inn is a story worth reading.” Review by Amy

Now for the good stuff…our interview with Colleen:
What was the first book you wrote?
Where Leads the Heart was my first novel. I call it my “grieving book” since I was mourning the loss of my younger brother Randy, and he became the hero of the story. 🙂
How many books have you written? And do you have a favorite?
I’ve lost track. Over 40. 🙂 And asking for a favorite is like asking me if I have a favorite child! I have loved working on them all.
You have really branched out into several genres in the past few years. Contemporary suspense, Amish, western, youth, historical! Most authors stick with one or two. How have you managed to write in each genre so well?
Most of them aren’t really all that different. My voice remains the same, and I have a mixture of mystery and romance in all of them. Even the Middle Grade books are mysteries and pull in the characters from Rock Harbor whom I know so well. 🙂 The only real departure is the children’s book for my granddaughter. The Blessings Jar is shipping to stores right now, and the illustrator matched my little Alexa so well!
Which genre do you like best?
Romantic mystery pushes all my hot buttons whether I’m in a historical time period or a contemporary one. I love that tingle from suspense!
I love your new middle-school books that you and Robin Caroll wrote together on the teen girls in your adult Rock Harbor series. How many books will be in this series?
Right now there are two. We adored doing that together! Robin knows Rock Harbor nearly as well as I do. 🙂
If you could be any character in any book (yours or someone else’s), who would it be?
Bree Matthews. There is a lot of me in Bree so it’s been gratifying how well loved she is by my readers!
I’m eagerly awaiting the release of Rosemary Cottage (Hope Beach #2). Will there be more in this series or is this it?
Oh yes! I’m working on Mariner’s Walk right now. A historical journal will be found in that novel, and then I plan to write a historical around that. I don’t know the title yet, but it will be a fun project!
Now that Rosemary Cottage is coming out this month, what will be your next book and when will it be released?
The next book out the gate in December is The Smitten Book Club written with my best friends Kristin Billerbeck, Diann Hunt, and Denise Hunter. My next solo novel is The Butterfly Palace and it’s out in January 2014. It’s a historical set in turn of the century Austin. It’s got a gothic feel to it and was super fun to write! There’s also an Aloha Reef novella coming in December as a digital first release titled Holy Night.
I wonder, did you have as much fun writing the Smitten series with 3 of your friends as much as I had reading them? Will there be a 3rd book in this series?
Oh it was sooo much fun! And yes, The Smitten Book Club will be out in December.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Spoiling my granddaughter! And I still love to read.
Who are some of your favorite authors/books? If you’re like me, the list would be huge!
Oh the list is long! 🙂 My three friends from Smitten of course. Tons of others. I’m constantly reading.
What are you reading now?
I’m a health nut. Currently I’m reading The Fast Metabolism Diet by Haylie Pomroy.
Thanks for having me! I love to hear from readers. Email me at email@example.com and check out my website colleencoble.com.
