“I Call Shotgun” is a Must Read

One of the Most Powerful Books I’ve Read! (5 Stars)

_225_350_Book.843.coverI Call Shotgun by Tommy Newberry and Curt Beavers (Thomas Nelson, Inc.)

This book is a treasure trove of wisdom.  Each of the 64 chapters are letters that the authors have written to their sons about various values and words of wisdom.  Although this book is geared toward dads and sons, I think it can be used by single moms, children/young adults, and even grandma’s like me.  It was like reading a modern day book of proverbs, it was so full of wisdom and just plain common sense.

Tommy Newberry and Curt Beavers are definitely men of strong Christian faith and are successful in the business world.  And it shows in their letters to their sons.  I was so moved by these letters and thought how blessed these young men are to have fathers like this who have taken the time to write down some of the most important lessons to learn that they will ever need.  And to share them with us so we can share them with our  children and young adults.

If you are like me, it’s hard to turn my thoughts into words.  So many things you want to say, yet you just don’t know how.  Well, this book was made for us.  It’s all inside these short chapters.  It’s very easy to sit down and read one chapter a day or maybe two or three a week.  That way you’ll have time to let it really sink in.  I read the book straight through for this review, but you don’t have to.  You can pick and choose the topic that’s important to you at the moment.

These letters are so full of wisdom and common sense that each letter should be savored and studied – remember them – the lessons taught are important ones.  I think the last chapter “Everything Counts” sums it up.  Your life is full of moments, days, events – good and bad.  But it all counts.  Make it count for good – work through it all, bad choices, good choices – life is meant to be lived for God’s glory, and we need to remember that.  It’s not easy but as Tommy Newberry says “To reach your maximum, you cannot do the minimum.”

I received this book free from the publisher through the BookSneeze®.com book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
